Visit the Kirk Gallery, Café and Workshop
The Kirk Gallery and Café is situated just metres from jewellery designer Sheila Fleet’s workshop in Tankerness. The beautifully renovated former parish church now showcases Sheila’s jewellery collections, including her very latest designs, and visitors can “take a pew” in the Kirk Café.
The café is housed in a tasteful extension, which is fully wheelchair accessible. The windows that used to be along one side of the kirk have been transformed into arched entranceways, that now provide access to the café. You will find the stained glass from these original windows incorporated into many of the bespoke chairs. Every detail of the Kirk has had Sheila and her son Martin’s personal attention.
Visitors who take a walk through the building will find many original features, such as the communion table and pews, which Sheila has repurposed and incorporated into this contemporary space.
Local produce is used throughout the menu, offering a delicious selection of dishes showcasing the best of Orkney. Fresh seafood and meat is used in hot and cold dishes, along with Orkney butter and eggs, which are used in freshly baked cakes each day. Our chefs have even put an Orcadian twist on some classic dishes, such as our Bere Benedict and Bere Royale.
Stop off at the café in the morning for a hot drink and scone, or try something off the newly-added brunch menu.
We serve a range of hot and cold dishes at lunch time, and a fantastic selection of homebakes is available all day. The café also caters for a range of dietary requirements. Please speak to a member of staff who will be happy to talk you through the options.
Don’t miss the special touches appearing throughout the menu, inspired by Sheila herself, and created by head chef Neil Gibson. A café favourite is Sheila’s Runic decoration, used on our freshly baked cakes, and on top of our pie of the day.
We recommend you book a table prior to arrival by calling us on 01856 861758, or via our website at sheilafleet.com/book-a-table
