A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE

-

Wildlife guide Megan Taylor set up her own business, Wild Orkney Walks, to share her knowledge and love of Orkney’s wildlife and scenery. Growing up in the Highlands, she has always been happiest outdoors with a pair of binoculars in hand enjoying Scotland’s amazing wildlife. Since moving to Orkney over 14 years ago, she has continued to develop her natural history skills by volunteering with the British Trust for Ornithology, RSPB, Orkney Nature Festival, and Orkney Field Club. She is keen to share her passion.

Megan has an extensive knowledge of Orcadian wildlife, including birds, animals, insects and flowers. A keen walker, she knows the best spots to see Orkney’s spectacular scenery, from the striking coastal cliffs to the pockets of hidden woodland.

Wild Orkney Walks offer a range of guided walks all year round, taking you off the beaten track, and allowing you to escape the crowds. Among the walks offered are special “Hidden Gems” adapted to make the most of the seasonal wildlife.

Whether its seals you want to see or hen harriers, Primula scotica or charismatic puffins, winter specialities such as mountain hares or long tailed ducks, there is a walk to suit you. Wild Orkney Walks can be arranged in the morning, afternoon, or evening, to take advantage of Orkney’s long summer evenings.

The walks are for small mixed groups of up to six people, and range in length from two hours up to a full day. In addition to the walks listed on the website, Wild Orkney Walks also offer bespoke walks and a wildlife guiding service. Bespoke tours can be created for a larger group size, for an island trip or a more personal experience for your private party.

As a wildlife guide, Megan can join you in your vehicle for a wildlife tour, and create a personalised itinerary for your day.

For more information, see the website www.wildorkneywalks.co.uk — places can fill up quickly during the summer, so advanced booking is advisable.

Megan’s guided walks provide a special insight into the beauty and magic of Orkney’s wildlife and landscapes.

Join her for a walk, and experience the real Orkney.
