‘Mug death man’ held

A MAN was re­manded in cus­tody yes­ter­day, ac­cused of the man­slaugh­ter of a 100-year-old widow who had her neck bro­ken in a mug­ging.

Zofija Kaczan died on Wed­nes­day, nine days af­ter the al­leged at­tack.

Pol­ish-born Arthur Waszkiewicz, 39, was re­manded by South­ern Der­byshire mag­is­trates.

Mrs Kaczan, who was held in a Nazi camp in the war, was al­legedly at­tacked from be­hind for her hand­bag en route to church in Nor­man­ton, Derby.

Waszkiewicz, of Shep­herd’s Bush, West Lon­don, will next ap­pear at Derby Crown Court on July 6.
