Fear of drug resistant VD
MEDICS fear a resistant strain of gonorrhoea – as venereal disease infections continue to rise.
Last year in England there were more than 7,000 cases of syphilis – a 20 per cent rise from 2016. And there were nearly 46,000 of gonorrhoea – 22 per cent up.
Health experts say they are concerned the rise of gonorrhoea could indicate the threat of a rare super strain which is resistant to routine drug treatment.
