Cruising with Jane MCD is must-sea TV
IN other news of “shows I don’t like but can’t seem to switch off” (see Love Island) I was pleasantly surprised by the new series of Cruising With Jane Mcdonald.
The former cruise ship singer picked up a Bafta for the C5 show last month, which frankly left me dumbfounded in horror.
I found the last series tacky and dated. But I tuned in to this latest seafaring jaunt around Australia and New Zealand on Friday and tried to embrace the extraordinary fandom out there.
The whole thing is akin to a cruise ship show: loud, camp, outrageous, cheeky, with occasional bursting into song. Jane loves an innuendo – “That’s a big organ!” she yelled inside the Sydney Opera House – but is game for a laugh.
The ability to chat to anyone and try new things are two big ticks for a TV tour guide. I was won over, hook, line and sinker.
