New trains strike grief

HUN­DREDS of trains were can­celled yes­ter­day in fresh strikes in the fight for guards on ser­vices.

Mem­bers of the Rail, Mar­itime and Trans­port union on South Western Rail­way and Ar­riva Rail North struck for 24 hours.

Buses re­placed trains on some routes. The RMT had picket lines at sta­tions.

The northern strike went ahead de­spite the two sides agree­ing to talks next week at con­cil­i­a­tion ser­vice Acas.
