NHS park fee trebles
A HOSPITAL’S staff car park permits are almost trebling in price as a private firm takes on the contract.
The rise, in a deal with outsourcing giant Capita, has enraged Colchester General Hospital workers.
The car park is already one of the NHS’S most lucrative, raising more than £1.1million last year.
Capita will take over next month. Permit prices, based on pay, rise in January.
Lowest-paid staff will be charged £5.93 a month, up from £2.07, while those on higher wages will see their £3.19 fee raised to £8.64.
One said: “We are being penalised, yet cars are often the only way to get here.”
The hospital said: “All parking revenue goes into patient care and managing car parks.” Capita said: “Clients set the tariffs and we manage their car parks.”
