Uni suicide alert order
UNIVERSITIES are being urged to introduce mental health strategies to stop students killing themselves.
Nearly 100 took their own lives during the last academic year.
Universities Minister Sam Gyimah has demanded all heads prioritise mental health as 400,000 freshers start their studies this week.
He wrote: “I expect each senior leadership team to deliver positive change.
“Advancing a student’s education is not your only commitment to them.”
The danger signs include self-harm, alcohol or drug abuse and debt. Staff are told to be aware of students struggling with workloads, relationship problems or being away from home.
