Tourists in flood peril
VISITORS had to run for their lives as flood waters surged through a narrow canyon at Jordan’s biggest tourist attraction.
The Treasury at Petra, famed for carved rock ruins, was urgently evacuated. Nearly 4,000 tourists were led to higher ground and a search for missing persons had begun last night.
Flash floods have killed at least 11 and a state of emergency was declared in the Red Sea port of Aqaba.
Two weeks ago, floods killed 21 people, mainly pupils on a school outing.
