YELLOW-VESTS clash with riot police in Paris as a fourth weekend of antigovernment protests turns violent.
Officers fired rubber bullets and tear gas after 8,000 demonstrators gathered and more than 700 people have been taken into custody.
At least 55 people have been injured, including three officers.
A ring of steel surrounded the Elysee Palace as police stationed trucks and reinforced steel barriers.

The Eiffel Tower and Louvre were among the tourist attractions closed as the angry mob slammed President Emmanuel Macron.
The subway was shut in the centre and Christmas markets, football matches and other events were axed.
The grassroots movement began as resistance to a rise in taxes for diesel and petrol but quickly expanded to encompass other grievances.
US President Donald Trump gloated: “The Paris Agreement isn’t working out so well for Paris. Protests and riots all over France.
“People do not want to pay large sums of money, much to third world countries (that are questionably run), in order to maybe protect the environment.”
