MOUTHFUL FOR SILLY BURGERS

AS much a part of Christmas as crackers are the stories about Them Trying To Ruin Christmas.

Them being the mythical “PC Brigade” who want to have Wise People and call it all Winterfest.

Most of it is nonsense, of course, but still. Gives people something to talk about I suppose. But there was a genuine one that snuck out this week.

PETA, the animal rights group backed by celebs such as Helen Flanagan, wanted to change common phrases to make them more vegan friendly. Honestly.

So instead of saying “bringing home the bacon” we would say “bringing home the bagel”. “Flog a dead horse” would be “feed a fed horse” and “kill two birds with one stone” is “feed two birds with one scone”.

I can only describe these proposals as “a load of herbal effluent from the rear of a ruminant quorn alternative”.
