Mac to axe union laws
LABOUR is to scrap laws barring people from taking industrial action to help fellow workers abroad.
John Mcdonnell pledged to restore union powers lost under Margaret Thatcher’s government in the 1980s.
The shadow chancellor spoke in Scotland, where he hailed a fight by RollsRoyce staff in East Kilbride during the 1970s.
They refused to repair jet engines used by General Augusto Pinochet’s brutal dictatorship in Chile.
Mr Mcdonnell said: “It was an effective blow against the Pinochet regime and its brutality against its own people.
“When we go back into government we will restore union rights that will enable workers to take similar action supporting fellow workers internationally.
“Such acts of solidarity have been attacked and undermined by restrictive anti-union laws started in the 1980s under Thatcher’s Tory government.
“Our programme of reform will restore the balance between employer and worker.”
