I missed Dirty Den deathbed

- By Karen Rockett

EASTENDERS legend Anita Dobson has told how she failed to see her on- screen hubby Leslie Grantham before his death.

But Anita, 69, believes Grantham would not have wanted her to see him at his worst.

The actress, who played Angie to Leslie’s Dirty Den in the BBC soap, said: “I heard he’d come back from Bulgaria where he’d been living and was very ill.

“I tried to see him but he died before I could get there.

“It was sad but in a strange way I don’t think he’d have wanted me to see him like that.”

Anita, who is married to Queen guitarist Brian May, told Weekend magazine: “All of my memories are still of that charming rogue.”

Grantham died aged 71 in June. Reruns of Den and Angie’s explosive episodes in the soap are being shown on the Drama Channel from tomorrow.
