Hammers to go down Lain road

WEST HAM UNITED have made a move to sign Austrian international right back Stefan Lainer from RB Salzburg when the transfer window opens next month.

The Hammers are keen to bolster their defence and want to get a jump on Italian outfit Napoli who are also interested in signing the 26 year-old.

Lainer, who rejected a move to Napoli in the summer, is under contract with Salzburg until 2022 and helped the club reach with Europa League semi-finals last season.

Lainer is rated around £10m by Salzburg and would be well within Manuel Pellegrini’s budget who has been cleared to spend more money despite a heavy outlay in the summer.
