Julian threatens to quit after 30 years of filth
JULIAN Clary has admitted he can’t keep it up for much longer.
The camp comic – famed for his innuendopacked routines – wants to quit performing and become a recluse.
Julian, 59, reckons audiences may be tiring of his outrageous humour as he prepares for what could be his final tour.
“I am 60 during this tour,” he said. “And I do think it might be the last one. Because at what age does it become inappropriate to talk about things that I talk about? I also wonder, would people want to see much more of me?”
Julian started out in London comedy clubs and found fame for his filthy, deadpan stand- up routines in the mid-1980s.
Now the former Celebrity Big Brother star is thinking about retiring from public life.
“I’m quite drawn to the idea of being a recluse,” he said. “I’ll lock myself away, watching Cash in the Attic and live in filth.” He also intends to pen the sequel to his first autobiography A Young Man’s Passage, published in 2005.
“I want to call it A Night at the Lubricant.” He confessed: “My last autobiography finished in 1993 so there’s a lot to say.”
