TEARS GEAR HIT

- By Karen Rockett

POP band Tears for Fears have auctioned off a “time capsule” of music equipment and memorabilia for £40,000.

The items were cleared from the garage of singer Roland Orzabal, who formed the 80s group with Curt Smith.

Auctioneers said the main attractions were synthesizers, which fetched between £2,100 and £5,500 each on Thursday. Other items, most from the 1996 Kings of Spain tour, included guitar amplifiers, VIP tour passes and Roland’s Electro-voice mic.

Tears for Fears were formed in Bath, Somerset. Their hits included Shout, Sowing the Seeds of Love and Mad World.

Luke Hobbs, of Gardiner Houlgate auctioneers in Corsham, Wilts, said of the sale: “It’s like a time capsule of a rock band’s tour from over 20 years ago. All the equipment was put into storage, until now.”
