LOSING AT CARDS

- By Nada Farhoud

IT is a time of giving but some shops selling charity Christmas cards will hand over more than others.

At Aldi, 25 per cent of the pack price goes to the Teenage Cancer Trust. But Asda, Sainsbury’s and Whsmith give only 10 per cent to good causes.

Morrisons donates £75,000 to cancer charity CLIC Sargent from sales. The Institute of Fundraising said cards were a “vital source of funding” for many good causes. But they advised shoppers to check what percentage firms give from sales.

In comparison, Cards For Good Causes, donates 70 per cent.

Martin James, of consumer complaints service Resolver, said: “People will be outraged. These huge profit making retailers should cough up way more cash – from their own profits if necessary.”
