Fragrant roses are always hip

-

OLD-FASHIONED rugosa roses produce tomato-like fruits against a backdrop of colourful autumn foliage as soon as fragrant single blooms fade.

Choice ones include Rose moyesii, which has prominent, bottle-shaped fruits, and the small, compact variety, Fru Dagmar Hastrup.

Rose hips are packed full of vitamin C.

If the birds do not get there first, they can be used to make teas, jellies and syrups or in autumn flower arrangements.
