Fans can root out brainless

CREDIT to Chelsea for the wording of the statement they released on Thursday condemning anti-semitism, and racial and religious hatred in all of their forms.

The fact the club questioned the “brainpower” of those who chanted about “Yids” in Budapest will have struck a chord with most of us.

The trouble is, there will always be a moronic minority who revel in the outrage they cause by singing such songs or airing abhorrent views, whether deep down they truly believe the words coming out of their mouths or not.

There is only so much as well that clubs and the authorities can do to monitor this sort of behaviour.

Dotting a good ratio of plainclothed stewards around grounds might just help root out some of the idiots.

But, really, the policing of this one is going to fall on those fans who don’t want the views of others to be seen as representative of themselves or their club.
