Super new Corden talent show to rival Cowell

JAMES Corden has won a multi-million dollar boost in his bid to topple Simon Cowell from the US telly charts.

Brit comedy star Corden, 40, has been hired by network giant CBS to front a new talent series called The World’s Best to rival Cowell’s America’s Got Talent.

The first show has been given a prime slot immediatel­y after the US football Super Bowl final on February 3, which usually attracts more than 100 million viewers. It is an enormous seal of approval for the Gavin & Stacey co-creator, who has already proved a big hit in America with his chat slot The Late Late Show.

CBS want to win Cowell’s title from the rival station NBC as the most watched entertainm­ent series on TV.

Corden has teamed up with leading TV producer Mark Burnett for the series, which will have actress Drew Barrymore, 40, singer Faith Hill, 51, and drag queen Rupaul, aul, 58, as judges. Cowell’s old boss who oversaw aw his US career start – Mike Darnell – is executive cutive producer.

A Los Angeles TV insider said: “James and Simon may be showbiz friends but this is a battle to be the biggest show in the USA and CBS are willing to back James against gainst his rival all the way.” Fifty acts s will fight it out over ten episodes es of The World’s Best.
