Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson, 27, said: “I don’t think people thought we’d ever last this long as a girlband. We’re just getting started, if I am honest.”

Shotgun singer George Ezra, 25, is nominated in the single category and described the prospect of the awards as “nerve-racking.” He said: “It kind of feels like the World Cup of music.

“I remember watching it all the time as a kid. It’s just strange seeing how it all works. Watching the performances roll out and it’s an amazing thing to be part of.”

Back as host, comedian Jack Whitehall, 30, plans to channel Beyoncé for this year’s awards.

He said: “Basically, in my head, I’m the Beyoncé of comedy, and I like as many costume changes as I can.

“I know what it is now, I know the game, you need to be able to think on your feet, throw a few punches, and embrace the chaos.”

He added: “That’s what you need to do – embrace the chaos, not fight it.”
