Drink quiz for mayor
A TOWN mayor accused of being drunk at a Remembrance Sunday event is to be investigated.
David Farry allegedly arrived late, was stumbling and slurring, and was deemed unsafe to light a remembrance beacon.
Ex-town councillor Brian Gibson, who was at another event but lodged a complaint after talking to witnesses, said: “He has shown a total lack of respect for those who died.”
Durham County Council launched its probe after receiving three complaints about the Ferryhill town council mayor.
Mr Farry said the claims were “ridiculous” and added he was not there in an official capacity.
Durham County Council noted reports he left his chain of office in his car.
