Drink quiz for mayor

A TOWN mayor ac­cused of be­ing drunk at a Re­mem­brance Sun­day event is to be in­ves­ti­gated.

David Farry al­legedly ar­rived late, was stum­bling and slur­ring, and was deemed un­safe to light a re­mem­brance bea­con.

Ex-town coun­cil­lor Brian Gib­son, who was at an­other event but lodged a com­plaint af­ter talk­ing to wit­nesses, said: “He has shown a to­tal lack of re­spect for those who died.”

Durham County Coun­cil launched its probe af­ter re­ceiv­ing three com­plaints about the Fer­ry­hill town coun­cil mayor.

Mr Farry said the claims were “ridicu­lous” and added he was not there in an of­fi­cial ca­pac­ity.

Durham County Coun­cil noted re­ports he left his chain of of­fice in his car.
