China vow over Peng
MISSING tennis ace Peng Shuai will appear in public soon, a top Chinese journalist claims.
Hu Xijin made the claim on Twitter yesterday after photos emerged online showing Peng with a cat and a toy panda.
The undated snaps sparked more speculation about the 35-year-old, who has not been seen in public since accusing a top politician of sexually assaulting her more than two weeks ago.
Her disappearance has sparked global fury. Yesterday the White
House and the United Nations joined demands for answers from China.
Mr Xijin, editor-inchief of the ruling Communist Party’s paper, the Global Times, said the latest pictures were Peng’s “current state”.
He added: “In the past few days, she stayed in her own home freely and didn’t want to be disturbed. She will show up in public and participate in some activities soon.”
The images were posted on Friday by a state journalist.
Men’s world No1 Novak Djokovic has backed a threat to boycott China by the Women’s Tennis Association.
