STEVEN GERRARD couldn’t contain his delight after launching his Aston Villa reign with victory over Brighton.
The new Villa boss watched Ollie Watkins and Tyrone Mings scored late on to end a run of five straight defeats that sparked Dean Smith’s sacking.
And Smith’s replacement made a memorable start to his bow in the Premier League dugout.
Gerrard said: “I’m really proud of the players and now the challenge is backing it up next week.
“Nobody deserves this win more than the players.
“They have had a tough time to lose five games but to stand up and produce the win is great.”
