Christmas In The Seventies

The People's Friend Special - - TRAVEL -

Christmas in the Seventies was different from today.

It wasn’t very digital, but had lots of fun and play.

Remember little Tiny Tears? She was my favourite doll!

And the coloured shapes of Spirograph that kept us all enthralled.

I loved bouncing round outside on my orange space hopper, And pedalling so fast upon my gleaming brand-new Chopper. We played all the newest games, like KerPlunk and Rebound, Though “clackers” and their dangers are now somewhat renowned!

My mum and dad got gifts of scents, like Charlie and Old Spice, They liked to drink Cinzano and they thought it very nice. At night the family gathered as a whole round the TV – Morecambe and Wise were fabulous, I’m sure you will agree.

A 1970s Christmas – what a trip down memory lane;

I remember reading “Bunty”, and I’m right back there again. Family and togetherness – what Christmas is about.

And this year will be just the same, of that I have no doubt.

Sharon Haston.
