The Penny Jar

I’ve spent my money on many things,

Throughout my life’s long run;

On gorgeous clothes and silver rings

And holidays in the sun;

On French perfume and pretty combs

And nights out with my chums;

On wallpaper and garden gnomes

And once a set of drums!

But the thing that’s at the very top, My biggest thrill by far,

Was when Mum took me to the village shop To buy a sweet from the penny jar.
