Yorkshire Lavender, York

-

Yorkshire folk proudly call their county “God’s Own Country”, and here, in this north of England Eden, lavender flourishes.

Yorkshire Lavender, situated some 30 miles from York, is set within the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just three miles west of tourist favourite Castle Howard.

Yorkshire Lavender began as a cathartic venture, set up in memory of the owner Nigel Goodwill’s wife Lynne, following her death from cancer 26 years ago.

The 60-acre site was bought to help secure their daughters’ future. Sam and Emma Jane were only five and three when they lost their mother.

The lavender fields display a tapestry of vibrant hues from purples to blues, white to soft pinks and even lilac.

Kids love getting lost in the lavender maze, chasing up and down the hills and clambering around the play area. EJ’s Tea Room, named after youngest daughter Emma Jane, boasts incredible views towards landmark York Minster in the distance.

And try the lavender ice-cream; it’s a recommended indulgence.

In the gift shop you’ll discover Yorkshire Lavender’s very own branded products in distinctive purple packaging, from restorative, relaxing bubble bath to luxurious hand cream and soothing lip balm.

Complete your day by taking a contemplative walk up to the poignant Lynne Goodwill Pyramid memorial which soars heavenwards.
