5 Ways To Store Food Without Plastic
1 Glass
Glass is infinitely recyclable and easily available so makes for a great sustainable food storage choice. Look out for glass food storage containers, made from durable borosilicate. Alternatively, you can repurpose old jars for storing leftover soups, sauces and stews.
2 Metal food storage tins
Metal food storage tins are light and easy to carry, so make for an alternative to plastic lunchboxes. Whilst you can buy fancy designs, do opt for unpainted versions which are more easily recycled at the end of their life.
3 Beeswax wraps
Beeswax wraps are a reusable alternative to cling film. Simply place the beeswax wrap over a container. The heat of your hands makes the beeswax pliable enough to be moulded around the container. When done, simply wash and use again.
4 Old Tupperware Tubs
Using what you already own is always the most sustainable option, so your old Tupperware tubs still make for great eco food storage options.
If your tubs are tomato stained, placing them in sunlight may help to remove any staining.
5 Silicone bags
As an alternative to single-use freezer bags, reusable silicone bags are a popular choice because of their durability. These bags can last for years, and can even be used in the oven and microwave, and can go in the dishwasher.
