Cutting Guide Front

From Lake Blossoms cut 1 rectangle measuring 61¼ ins x 7¼ ins from the length.

From Spot cut 1 rectangle measuring 61¼ ins x 3¼ ins from the length. From Ombre cut 2 strips each measuring 4¼ ins from across the width. Join the short ends of the Ombre strips together, matching the pattern if possible. Then cut to a length of 61¼ ins.

Backing

From Millefiore cut 1 rectangle measuring 61¼ ins x 12¼ins.

To Make

Note: All measurements include a 5/8 in seam allowance.

1. With right side facing, place the Spot fabric on the left-hand side of the Lake Blossoms rectangle, aligning the long edges. Pin and stitch. (A)

2. Attach the Ombre rectangle on the right-hand side of the Lake Blossoms. Press both seams open. (A)

3. Pin the front to the backing with right sides together, leaving a 4-in opening to turn the scarf through. (B)

4. Sew the pieces together noting that when you get to within ½ in of the corner, reduce the stitch length. At the corners, lower the needle into the fabric, raise the presser foot and pivot your work. Continue for ½ in with reduced stitch length then return to the normal length. When you reach the opening, reverse stitch to fasten the thread then increase your stitch length to 5 and stitch across the opening.

5. Trim away the corners to reduce the bulk. Finger-press the seam open all the way round, including the opening. (C)

6. Remove the large stitches across the opening and turn the scarf through, teasing out the corners. Slip stitch the opening closed. (D)

Press.

7. On the front of the scarf, add lines of running stitch using embroidery cotton, starting ¼ in in from each edge and evenly spaced in between. Either work the rows by eye, or mark out the lines with a fading fabric marker, dividing it into approx. 12 lines.

Running Stitch

To work running stitch, work from right to left, secure the thread with a small stitch and bring the needle out on the stitch line, insert it a stitch length along and bring it out again a stitch length ahead. n
