Pride And Prejudice, 1995
It is over two decades since Colin Firth emerged from the lake in that wet shirt and brought swooning to a whole new level in an unforgettable moment of television. The scene was intended to be humorous as Darcy struggled to maintain his dignity. Firth’s mixture of pride and sulking vulnerability resulted in a BAFTA nomination, yet he had been reluctant to take the role originally. Later he went on to play Mark Darcy in the films of Helen Fielding’s Bridget Jones series.
