“My great-great-greatgrandfather, Andrew Carnegie, was the richest man in the world – and he gave it all away,” Joe Whiteman, an actor and singer from Perth, says.
“His philosophy was that you should spend the first part of your life learning as much as possible, spend the next third earning as much as possible and then spend the final third using this money to help other people. And that wonderful philosophy has continued throughout our family.
“I’d love to go to Pittsburgh to see where Andrew Carnegie’s incredible legacy began but I’ll have to save up! My great-great-greatgrandfather would be happy to know that his family definitely isn’t living off the Carnegie name – or riches!”
