Have You Discovered Youtube Gardening?

-

If you have a practical task, then Youtube is a wonderful free resource. You can find a video on how to make anything, which isn’t always a good thing. However, when it comes to “How to prune lavender” or “How to plant a hedge”, then practical and easy-to-follow is ideal.

Youtube isn’t just for the young. My brother-in-law is in his sixties, and has put a corrugated iron roof on our pergola with instructions from Youtube. I use Youtube when I’m trying to find out what’s gone wrong with the television. My Other Half is usually still looking for the instructions manual by the time I’ve found the answer.

You can “search” in Youtube just as you can in Google. So go to www.youtube.com, and then type, for example, “How to plant garlic” in the search box.

The most popular videos come up first, and most will be good. But some will be from abroad and not suitable for our climate. And there’s no way to tell whose advice is best. You’ll have to go by your own instincts – which are probably quite good.

I can recommend “Charles Dowding” on organic gardening. “Lavender And Leeks” and “Lovely Greens” are charming allotment channels. The US channel “Good Gardening Videos” screens and checks videos for reliable information.

And, of course, there’s “The Middlesized Garden” Youtube channel, where I mix reviews, tips and interviews with tours of my own garden and other people’s (middle-sized) gardens. Do pop over to it and say hello.
