I’d Like To Know Q

I noticed in the “Between Friends” section n of the magazine a reader’s pet was mentioned as a breed called Khao Manee. I’ve never heard of this breed before. The cat looked so elegant – can you tell me a little bit more about its origins? Mrs L.M., Hull.

A

Khao Manee can be recognised by their pure white coats and their origins can be traced back to Thailand, where they were firm favourites in the royal palaces of Siam. Their eye colour can vary between blue, amber or green – or even odd-coloured eyes!

They are also known as Diamond Eye cat or White Gem (a translation of their name), and their lineage goes way back. In fact, there’s mention of the breed in poems dating as far back as 1350.

Highly intelligent active cats, they are social by nature and are comparable to Siamese.

The first Khao Manee was brought to the United States in 1999, where they quickly gained in popularity and spread, coming to the UK some years later.

Q

Can you tell me anything about the actress Deanne Bray who portrayed the part of a deaf agent in the 2004 series of “Sue Thomas F.B.EYE”, which I’m currently watching on Freeview? Mrs K.W.R., UK.

A

Deanne was born in Los Angeles in 1971. The forty-seven-year-old actress was actually born deaf and she’s bilingual in American and English sign language. As well as playing the role of Sue Thomas in the popular crime drama, Deanne has also had a recurring role as Emma Coolidge in “Heroes”. She has also had appearances in “Law And Order” and “Grey’s Anatomy”, as well as theatre work.

Q

Can you settle a debate, please, and tell me which country produces the most olive oil? Mr C.M., Edinburgh.

A

Spain tops the list for olive oil production. Did you know an olive tree is usually aged between five and eight years old before it bears its first fruit?
