Founded in 1983, Pets As Ther­apy (PAT) is a na­tional char­ity that en­hances the health and well­be­ing of peo­ple of all ages in the com­mu­nity.

Vol­un­teers work with their own pets in hospi­tals, hos­pices, nurs­ing and care homes, day care cen­tres and schools, bring­ing joy, com­fort and com­pan­ion­ship to many who ap­pre­ci­ate be­ing able to touch and stroke a friendly dog.

The ther­a­peu­tic vis­its also im­prove the lives of peo­ple suf­fer­ing from de­bil­i­tat­ing men­tal and phys­i­cal con­di­tions, and raise lit­er­acy lev­els in chil­dren by de­vel­op­ing their con­fi­dence, in­ter­est and en­joy­ment in read­ing.
