James Banned!

When Dick van Dyke accepted the role, it was on the condition that he wouldn’t be asked to do another English accent! After his Cockney twang in Mary Poppins took a bit of a ribbing in the press, he wasn’t keen on a second attempt.

Producer Albert R. Broccoli is also said to have offered Dick van Dyke the role of James Bond, at which point van Dyke asked him if he’d heard his British accent. When Broccoli remembered, he immediately retracted the offer!
