MATERIALS

5 (5, 6, 6, 6, 7) 50-gram balls of Rico Fashion Cotton Light & Long Tweed DK in Purple Haze (014). One pair each 4 mm (No. 8) and

TENSION

22 sts and 30 rows to 10 cm measured over main pattern using 4 mm needles.

2nd row – P3, K1, purl until 4 sts rem, K1, P3.

3rd row – K3, [P1, K1] until 4 sts rem, P1, K3.

4th row – As 2nd. These 4 rows set main patt (the centre section), with ribbed outer edges.

Cont in patt until back measures 54 (56, 57, 58, 60, 61) cm, measured through centre of work and ending after a wrong-side row.

Shape shoulders – Cast off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 7 (9, 10, 11, 12, 13) sts at beg of next 6 rows, then 9 (8, 9, 11, 12, 14) sts at beg of next 2 rows – 33 (35, 39, 41, 45, 47) sts.

Cast off loosely.

RIGHT FRONT

With 5 mm needles, cast on 67 (73, 77, 83, 87, 93) sts. Set Panel and main patt:

1st row (right-side) – P10 (these 10 sts form front border which rolls over to right-side), K3, work 19 sts from 1st row of Panel, K3, P2, [K1, P1] 12 (15, 17, 20, 22, 25) times, K1, P2, K3.

2nd row – P3, K1, P27 (33, 37, 43, 47, 53), K1, P3, work 2nd row of Panel, P3, K10.

3rd row – P10, K3, work 3rd row of Panel, K3, P1, [K1, P1] 14 (17, 19, 22, 24, 27) times, K3.

4th row – P3, K1, P27 (33, 37, 43, 47, 53), K1, P3, work 4th row of Panel, P3, K10.

5th to 20th rows – Rep 1st to 4th rows four times but working 5th to 20th rows of Panel.

These 20 rows set patt. Work 44 more rows, noting that you finish after a wrongside row.

Shape front slope – Next (dec row) – Patt 35, P2tog, patt to end (one st dec).

Shape shoulder – Cast off 4 sts at beg of next row – 44 (49, 53, 58, 62, 67) sts. Work 1 row straight.

Cast off 7 (9, 10, 11, 12, 13) sts at beg of next row and the 2 foll alt rows – 23 (22, 23, 25, 26, 28) sts.

Work 1 row straight.

Cast off 9 (8, 9, 11, 12, 14) sts at beg of next row – 14 sts ★★.

Next row (right-side) – P10, K3, inc knitways in next st – 15 sts.

Stitch inner edge of back neck border in place, joining ends at centre back of neck. Join side seams leaving approx. 19 (21, 22, 24, 25, 27) cm free for armhole slits. Press seams. ■
