Q I do love a good bit of ice-cream now and again, but what are the most popular flavours?

A That title – in the UK, at least – tends to rest with vanilla.

A poll carried out in 2021 showed it was the country’s most popular, followed by chocolate and strawberry.

Next on the list were mint choc chip, caramel/salted caramel, then rum and raisin. Other popular tastes includes pistachio and raspberry.

Seven out of 10 adults in the poll also said ice-cream was their favourite dessert.

As ice-cream production evolves there have been some unusual flavours emerge, including macaroni and cheese, lobster and avocado and cayenne.

Q When did buses first come into service in London?

A The history of buses in the capital city stems all the way back to the 1830s, when they involved horses rather than engines.

The initial stage coach services were called Omnibus, which means “for all” in Latin, which was abbreviated to bus.

By 1832, there were 400 horse buses on the go in London.

It wasn’t until the 1900s that motor buses were introduced, progressing into the famed red double deckers we know and love today, which act as something of a symbol for London.

As a sign of gradual evolution, it is expected that all London buses will be zero emission in the 2030s.

Q When did people start becoming vegan?

A The Vegan Society claims evidence of people choosing not to eat animal products stems back more than 2,000 years.

The society itself was formed in 1944 by a group of vegetarians who did not consume dairy.

The word vegan is said to have been created by one of the society’s founders, Donald Watson, cutting down the word vegetarian.

The number of people shunning animal products has been growing since, especially in recent years.
