Fight trio sentenced

-

THREE men who drunkenly brawled in the city centre have avoided a jail sentence.

Simon Brown (23), of Warwick Road, Peterborough; Andre Sinclair (23), of Gatenby, Peterborough, and Paul Greer (23), of Hadrians Court, Peterborough, were seen fighting in Bridge Street, Peterborough at 2.20am on Saturday, May 5 this year,

The trio, who were celebrating Brown’s birthday at the time, were recorded punching and kicking by CCTV operators, with the brawl lasting for more than six minutes before it was broken up.

Yesterday the three men, who are life-long friends, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court, where they all pleaded guilty to use threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence.

Rebecca Keogh, defending, said all three had no previous convictions and were remorseful.

Deputy District Judge Sandeep Kainth warned them they could all face jail, before sentencing them to carry out unpaid work.

He said: “Mindless violence is what comes to mind. It is not simply mindless violence as the incident took place over six minutes.

“There is repeated punching and kicking. Mr Sinclair took a flying kick into the back.

“Strictly speaking I should send you to prison. You probably could learn a bit from being inside – you would learn the behaviour you showed can never be tolerated.”

Each man was ordered to carry out 120 hours’ unpaid work and told to pay £85 court costs.
