Green firms rewarded for making a difference
MORE than 120 people watched as over 30 Peterborough businesses gathered recently at the Investors in the Environment (IIE) Awards Ceremony to receive their accolades.
Leader of Peterborough City Council, Cllr Marco Cereste, who helped launch the scheme in 2010, joined in to celebrate the achievements of local businesses, along with renewable specialist Jonathan Selwyn, of Lark Energy, and other VIP guests.
The celebration highlighted IIE members’ achievements and how IIE has helped businesses reduce their environmental impact and
bd save money.
The IIE scheme is in its third year and has worked hard to help businesses become more sustainable.
There are now more than 700 businesses pledging to be greener on this scheme and over 100 of them are working towards, if not already achieving, the environmental green accreditation.
The awards ceremony highlighted the success of another year and local businesses were awarded ei- ther the Bronze, Silver, Green and Great Green Star awards.
Bronze and Silver award winners included Olsen Partnership, Athene Communications and Hunt & Coombs Solicitors.
After a successful year of increasing their green achievements, Inspired to Change, Change Agents UK, Coca-cola, Cambridgeshire Police, Smiths Nissan & Renault and the Peterborough Evening Telegraph were amongst the 23 Green Award winners.
Nine businesses which have made exceptional reductions to their environmental impact were awarded the Great Green Star Award.
These businesses included Anne Corder Recruitment, the Environment Agency, Peterborough City Council, IKEA and Queensgate Shopping Centre.
Peterborough Regional College received the Overall Outstanding Achievement Award after reducing its water by 17.5 per cent and cutting waste by 23 per cent since 2009.
The college has also reduced its carbon footprint by planting trees and installing 60sq m of Solar PV.
