Opportunit­y to cut cost of power bills in the new year

Residents can save cash on their bills by signing up to a new scheme.

Peterborou­gh City Council is running its ‘ Ready to Switch’ campaign through January, which can save householde­rs up to £ 200 a year.

Theschemeu­sesthecomb­ined buying power of residents to negotiate cheaper prices with energy companies. Households switch energy provider as a group at the same time - and everyone saves on their own bill.

Councillor Nigel North, cabinet adviser to the leader of Peterborou­gh City Council onEnvironm­entCapital, said: “Thestart of the year is a time when people may be looking to save money, especially afterspend­ingagreatd­ealinthe runuptoChr­istmas. Withenergy­pricesrisi­ng, agoodplace to start might be looking at what you pay for the energy you use in your home. Signing up to the Ready to Switch scheme could save residents between £ 60 and £ 200 a year so it’s worth seeing what it’s possible to save. Once you receive your offer letter there is absolutely no obligation to accept it so you have nothing to lose.

“So far more than 14,000 people have signed up to the energy scheme. That figure is going up by the hour which is great as the more people that sign up, the bigger the potential savings.”
