It’s Fergie time to enjoy a good run
Darren Ferguson is adamant it’s about time Posh had a decent FA Cup run under his management.
Poshhavenotventuredpast the third round since their League Two days in the 200708seasonwhenChampionship club Colchester were among their victims.
They have been unlucky to be drawn against Premier League clubs in the third round in each of the last four seasons and fate has handed them another one against a fading Norwich side this Saturday.
Ferguson is under no illusions about the task facing his under- strength side, but he is convinced they can test ‘ The Canaries’ even without Gaby Zakuani ( international duty), DwightGayle( cup- tied) andLee Tomlin ( suspended).
Ferguson said: “Norwich are having a really good season so we will be up against it, but it will be good to play without toomuchpressureforachange.
“Anyway it’s high time we had a good cup run.
“We’ve never really had one inmytimeattheclubandI’dlike that to change.
“We have a very tough tie. but it should be a big crowd so we are looking forward to it.”
Posh will welcome back two popular ex- players to London Road on Saturday.
Defenders Russell Martin and Ryan Bennettbothenjoyed promotion- winningcampaigns with Posh.
Sadly neither was made available for interview by their current club before the weekendgame, but Fergusonhasdescribed his decision to let Martin leave Posh for Carrow Road inNovember2009ashisbiggest managerial regret.
Ferguson said: “Russ was an outstanding captain for us whenwewonpromotion to the Championship and he was one of the most consistent players in the team
“We didn’t start the following season very well, but I should have stuck with Russ rather than loaning hin out to Norwich. It’s worked out great for him though and I couldn’t be happier because he is a top bloke as well as a very good player.”
Martin scored onegoal in 69 Posh appearances.
Bennett scored six times in 100 appearances for the club.”
