Dancing star Daniel has TV show glory in his sights
A teenage dancing star is hoping to dazzle top judges and millions of viewers to reach the final of a major national TV competition.
Daniel Mutton ( 18) of Middle Pasture, Werrington, will perform live on Sky1’ s Got To Dance as part of hip hop dance crew Collective Entertainment.
The 15- member team impressed judges – including Peterborough’s own Aston Merrygold – with their audition performance, and Daniel and the rest of his team will now dance live on Sunday night, hoping to follow Louis Smith, who like Daniel went to Arthur Mellows School, on the road to TV dancing glory.
Daniel said: “I started dancing when I was four. I listened to music and watched TV, and then started having classes.
“I started doing ballet and contemporary jazz competitions, and didn’t get in to street and hip hop until I was much older.
“I used to be bullied when I was younger, because it was not seen as cool to dance. But it is something I have always wanted to do.
“When I was 14 I started to go to the USA in the summer holidays with some great choreographers, which has been an incredible experience.
“Two years ago I went to London to take part in classes and workshops, and a choreographer called Hamilton approached me, and said he was looking for people to be part of the new company Collective Entertainment.”
Since joining the crew the team have gone from strength to strength, finishing with their performance on the Sunday night show. They have even got celebrity support from chart topping singer Jessie J.
Daniel is now hoping for the support of the public to push the crew into the final for a chance to win £ 250,000.
He said: “I travel down to London every week for training. We only did our first show last year.
“It has become like a family now, and we went to the Got To Dance auditions in September.
“We had to learn the routine injust two or three weeks, which was really intense,
“We did not know we were through to the live shows until Sunday. We have been rehearsing hard since then. The semi- final dance will be very different to the one we did in the auditions, but it will be spectacular.
“I know Aston is from Peterborough, but I don’t want that to sway him – I want the dancing to do the talking.”
The first Got To Dance semi- final will be shown on Sky1 at 6pm.
