City street will lose its bus service from Sunday
Bus users have launched a campaign to stop planned changes to routes in Peterborough which will see some streets losing their service.
The Longthorpe and Netherton Residents’ Association has organised a petition in opposition to the shake- up by bus operator Stage coach.
From Sunday, buses will no longer stop in Harewood Gardens ( or a part of Eastern Avenue, in Dogs thorpe).
A spokes woman for the association said: “Everyone is up in arms about it. They are all very, very cross.”
Petitions can be found in the Martin McColl newsagents, in Winslow Road, Netherton, and the Longthorpe post office, in Thorpe Road.
The nearest alternative stops for Harewood Gardens residents will be Atherstone Avenue or Thorpe Road.
Martyn Hobbs ( 43), of Harewood Gardens, said residents, many of whom are elderly, would be walking up to half a mile to catch a bus.
This is despite local stops being well used, he says.
Hesaid: “As I work at home and the bus stop is within sight of my house I see that ther oute is regularly used throughout the day.”
Resident of nearby Audley Gate Graham Ward( 83) is also set for disruption.
From Sunday, he will have to change buses at Peterborough City Hospital to visit the gym in Bretton, which he does three times a week.
