Warren upset as Alan masters the Four Islands

- by Ken Wade Angling correspondent

There was a shock in store for the JVAC anglers drawn on the Four Island Pool at Decoy Lakes. It’s been tough at the venue during the cold snap. but Alan Warren put a fine 67lb 60zs to the scales from peg three on the long pole.

In second place was Colin Varney with 48lb followed by Jay Richardson on 44lb 14oz.

Unfortunately as there were so many anglers lining up to fish the JVAC match Horseshoe Pool wasalso used and it proved hard going.

Top rod with 30lb 5oz was Mick King. He fished peg 19 on the pole with pellet. Terry Tribe came in second with 18lb 10oz, then came Andy Gausden on 17lb 6oz.

My catch of the week award though goes to Mark Pollard fishing in the HAJAC Winter League series at Factory Bank.

Mark opted for a squatt and pinkie approach on the long pole line. Usually it’s a whip fished close in that wins most matches here, but the different method saw Mark putting a fine 18lb 0.5oz to the scales, which was a full 5lb ahead of second- placed Phil Chesterton and third- placed Glen Brown.

Mark’s Stanjay Gold team are now fourth overall, eight points behind Stanjay Silver.

On the fend rains small fish were the order of the day in the latest Whittlesey AA match fished at the Carrot Wash on Bevills Leam.

Out in front again from the end peg was John Taylor, catching straight away and recording 235 fish mostly roach to win with 8lb 3oz alternating between whip and pole with maggot over ground bait.

Bucking the trend from the other end of the match length was John Hudson. He went for the bigger fish with worm over chopped worm and caster and was rewarded with several decent sized perch and a few skimmers in between catching roach on the pole with pinkie over ground bait for a weight of 7lb 2oz.

Andy Lawrence caught well on a whip and pinkie approach over ground bait and then onto the pole with hook maggot to finish third on 7lb 1oz.
