Ray is the King of the Road

-

Deeping St James fished their Severals Fishery Cup on the Deeping Roadside venue on the River Welland.

And once again it was Ray Torrington who came out top on what seems to be his favourite venue this year. He even drew the most unfancied peg on the day, but when your luck’s in, just go with the flow.

Fishing bread punch over liquidised bread he took some quality roach to finish with 4lb 1oz from peg 19.

In second place was Mel Saggers catching 1lb 14oz of roach from peg 7 also using bread punch and third was Paul Dotchin fishing High Lock son peg 26 with 1lb4drm of small fish.

The first proper match since the lakes cleared of ice at Decoy Lakes saw the over 50’ s match take place on both the Yew and Oak Pool.

Jay Richards on put a cracking 62lb 12oz to the scales to top the list on the Yew Pool. He caught on the long pole with maggot from peg 15.

Runner up was Stan Dow with 48lb 9oz.

The Oak Pool was in fact more consistent with the top three all putting 40lb plus to the scales.

Top rod on this pool was Colin Varney, he weighed in 44lb 9oz followed by Roy Wells with 43lb 2oz.

Just 10 minutes into the latest sweepstake at Haddon Lodge and Stamford angler George Bates had already banked a 10lb 6oz carp which left everyone else competing for second place

Deeping angler Brian Ogden took second place with a mixed bag of 5lb 14oz from peg 19. Alan Forrest was third with 4lb 6oz.
