Champ Fiona survives a scare to reach semis

-

Defending Northants County Indoor champion Fiona Richardson had a scare in this year’s quarter- finals.

Richardson edged past Jenny Harvey 21- 20 to set up anall- Peterborough semi- final with Doris Flowers.

There’s another all- Peterborough semi- final in the pairs, with Richardson up against Julie Masters, while Stamford’s Christine Ford takes on Peterborough’s Sheila Craig in the other.

There’s guaranteed to be a Peterborough v Stamford decider in the rinks, with Stamford ‘ s Glenys Edwards and defending champion Christine Ford meeting in one, and Peterborough’s Carol Hunter and Pat Reynolds clashing in the other.

Northants Bowling Federation could clinch a place in the national final of the English Bowling Federa- tion’s Derbyshire Trophy inter- county championship this weekend.

Having won two out of two, Northants face Norfolk on Sunday in their final southern section fixture.

Three rinks are at Stamford and the other three face a trip to Acle as Northants seek a win that will almost certainly put them through to the April final in Newark.

Northants have only reached the final twice and on both occasions– 1996 and 2006– they were successful.

Peterborough & District women’s hopes of national glory this season in the Yetton Plate were dashed at the quarter- final stage.

They were beaten 100- 64 by the Hitchin- based Riverain club
