Phantoms almost get bitten before sealing four- pointer

Phantoms clearly aren’t going to take the easy route into the play- offs.

A Sunday stroll to a crucial win and a first four- point weekend of the season was turned into a roller- coaster ride due to their inability to see out a game.

This match was all but over with a quarter- of- an- hour to go after a Jeff Glowa goal put Phantoms 4- 1 up against a de- flated set of Steel dogs. Yet, with two points at their mercy, Phantoms had the mother of all wobbles.

They conceded twice in 28 seconds to find their backs being pressed up against the wall. They just about survived thanks to some desperate defence before James Ferrara triggered an audible sigh of relief by firing into an empty net in the final few seconds.

The opening period had gone perfectly to plan with an early Luke Ferrara powerplay strike being followed by a sec- ond from Maris Ziedins after a mesmerising piece of approach play from Lewis Hook.

A brilliantly- taken Edgars Bebris strike halved their advantage but the two- goal cushion was quickly restored as Ziedins superbly sent a reverse flick past Steeldogs netminder Dalibor Sedlar.

Glowa’s fourth should have finished the job but Phantoms got a shock as Bebris and Lubomir Korhon set up a grand stand finish that few would have envisaged, but Phantoms scrambled home.
