Court honours loyal guardians of city’s justice
Praise of the highest order has been paid to the men and women who bring city criminals to book.
High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire Penelope Walkinshaw opened a wall of honour at Peterborough Crown Court to six city judges and gave Long Service Awards to court staff in thanks for their “extraordinary contribution” to justice.
Mrs Walkinshaw unveiled the photo gallery of past judges responsible for sentencing some of the city’s most prolific offenders, since 1980.
Of the six, His Honour Christopher Young, Resident Judge from 1980 to 1987, and His Honour Neil McKittrick, Resident Judge from 2009 to 2010, attended the event.
Current Resident Judge, His Honour Nic Madge, highlighted the remarkable dedication and loyalty of court staff who make city courts so efficient. Hesaid: “We have shorter waiting times and we have higher performance rates than almost any other court in the South East.
“That means that we pro- vide a better service for the citizens of the city, whether they be victims, defendants or witnesses.”
Court staff with more than 25 years service’, were congratulated by the Chief Constable of Cambridgeshire, Simon Parr, and the Mayor and Mayoress of Peterborough.
