Flory strikes as Star stay on the road to glory

-

Northern Star Ladies boss Steve Iredale is convinced his team can lift the East Midlands Womens Premier Division title.

The city aces are unbeaten in six matches in 2013after sinking Arnold Town 3- 0 last Sunday.

Nina Flory, Donna Nicholls and Chanade Henderson struck in the final half- an- hour while Star kept a fourth successive clean sheet.

They are now fourth in the standings, just four points behind table- toppers Mansfield Town.

Iredale said: “I’m sure we can win the league and I’ve instilled the same belief in the players. We have the bests quad in the league and keeping everyone happy is my biggest problem.

“We have been terrific since suffering a little blip before Christmas. Having a captain like Hannah Phillimore, who has won this league playing for Loughborough Students, helps when things get a bit sticky.

“Sofia Aragosa coming back from the States and playing like a female Rio Ferdinand at the back was another boost, but the whole back five have tightened up.”

Iredale will hope those miserly defensive ways continue during a big few days.

Star travel to Rise Park for a crucial league clash tonight before taking on Daventry Town in the Northants Womens Cup Final at Raunds Town FC on Sunday ( 3pm).

Netherton United remain on course for a double in the Mid- Shires Girls League with both the Under 14s and Under 16s closing in on their respective titles following weekend wins.

The Under 1 6s beat Kettering 4- 1 with Georgia Clarke claiming a double while the Under 14s slammed Corby Hellenic 15- 0 with Emma Pollard hitting five and Olivia Nunziata and Hazel Stirling both scoring hat- tricks.
