A magical charity for sick and disabled children has been saved after the city’s Mayor put official weight behind the cause.

Mayor George Simons picked the Peterboroughbased Rudolf Fund, which runs Christmas trips to Disneyland Paris, to benefit from dozens of charity balls, coffee mornings and sausage suppers held at the Town Hall.

Delighted volunteers behind the at- risk charity have raised the £ 30,000 it takes to run the once- in- a- lifetime trip, thanks to the high- profile support.

Rudolf Fund chairman Chrissie Rusdale said the contribution from the Mayor’s Charity fundraisers had made a terrific difference.

He said: “It’s fantastic that this year we’re able to run the trip how we have in the past.

“Last year we could only take one coach and now we’re able to take two coaches again, taking up to 35 children away.

“We definitely wouldn’t have had two coaches and would have struggled to had sent even one.”

“The last few years have not been that kind on us, as people don’t have the money spare these days. But we’re positive about this year and are hoping to find some lovely children to take on the trip.”

Councillor Simons praised the public for their “incredible support”.

He said: “The nice thing about this cause is that it’s a totally local charity – what more could you ask?”

Brave children living with illness, disability and frequent hospital treatments, can be nominated for a place on the special trip, which leaves for Disneyland on December 1.
